Returning After Deportation

Legal assessment of removal orders, reentry bars, permission to reapply, and possible lawful routes to return.

Returning after removal

A prior removal order can trigger bars to admission, and unlawful reentry may create additional barriers. We analyze the order, departure and reentry history, consular options, and whether permission to reapply under Form I-212 or a separate waiver is required.

Why I-212 and I-601 are not interchangeable

I-212 addresses consent to reapply following certain removal-related bars; I-601 concerns specific grounds of inadmissibility. Some applicants need both, while others qualify for neither. Reinstatement and permanent-bar issues require separate analysis.
