CJA appointments and Padilla consultations

Mr. Langer has been appointed by federal judges under the Criminal Justice Act to advise on immigration consequences in criminal proceedings. He also provides Padilla consultations to public defenders and private counsel, assessing deportability, inadmissibility, aggravated felonies, CIMTs, and consequences of proposed pleas.

Immigration-safe dispositions and written opinions

Engagements may include conviction-record analysis, written advisals and letters for courts, communication with prosecutors, participation in plea negotiations, and consultation regarding alternative charges or dispositions intended to mitigate immigration consequences.

Mentorship and training

Mr. Langer has mentored both new and experienced attorneys in immigration court practice, USCIS filings, federal district court litigation, and appeals. Individual sessions, firm trainings, case strategy reviews, and procedural workshops can be arranged.

Co-counsel, expert consultation, and pro hac vice

The firm is available to collaborate on removal defense, federal habeas, APA litigation, petitions for review, and post-conviction matters, including pro hac vice appearances where allowed by the relevant court and subject to local-counsel rules. Services may include brief review, issue spotting, legal research, and participation as consulting or co-counsel. Any expert engagement depends on the scope and court rules.

Pro bono litigation and community collaboration

Mr. Langer has provided pro bono assistance on immigration detention and habeas matters and works with nonprofit, community, and legal-service organizations. Consultations and trainings can address emerging enforcement practices and litigation strategy.

Specialized matters

Topics include conviction consequences, motions and appeals, immigration fraud determinations, Adam Walsh Act petition restrictions, detention, TRIG, and federal judicial review.

Community-centered litigation partnerships

The firm welcomes collaboration with legal-services organizations, public defenders, nonprofit advocates, and private counsel on matters affecting immigrants and other vulnerable communities. Joint representation and training can help support careful factual investigation, effective litigation strategy, and client-directed decision-making.
